About the causes of ED

About Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including stress, lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, and aging.

The symptoms of ED are different for each person.
For example, a person has sexual desire and is aroused, but does not have an erection. Erection but not hard enough. It does not last. ED is a disease that can occur in many men.

Why does ED occur? There are many reasons.
Erection is caused by a combination of neurological, vascular, and psychological factors.
If there is a problem with each of these factors, or even just a problem with one of them, there is a risk of ED.
Let’s look at the causes.

Disorders of blood vessels

After sexual stimulation and the signal for erection is sent to the penis, blood flows into the corpus cavernosum penis, causing it to expand and harden.

Therefore, if the function of the blood vessels is impeded for any reason, an erection will not occur and ED will result.

The most common cause of this pattern is arteriosclerosis due to aging.

Other causes of arteriosclerosis include lifestyle-related diseases related to blood circulation such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, all of which increase the risk of ED.

Nerve damage

Normally, upon sexual stimulation, an erection signal is sent through the nerves.

Therefore, if the nerves are damaged, the erection signal does not reach the penis, causing ED.

Diseases that cause nerve damage include cerebral hemorrhage, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and diabetic neuropathy, one of the complications of diabetes mellitus.

Psychological factor

It is estimated that up to 20% of all cases of erectile dysfunction are caused by psychological factors.

There are two types of ED caused by psychological factors.
The first type is called psychosomatic ED, which is caused by mental or daily stress or trauma from unsuccessful intercourse, which the patient is aware of.
Not only those directly related to intercourse, such as pressure to do well today or the possibility of another failure, but also stress from daily life and other minor stresses, such as worry, work stress, and financial hardship, can cause ED.

The second is called deep psychogenesis, which is unconscious stress that you are not aware of, such as childhood trauma.
Both can cause ED because sexual arousal is not transmitted properly to the penis.

In some cases, mental health also improves when ED is improved with ED medication, but in other cases, psychotropic medication is necessary.

Drug-induced ED

Medications you are taking may increase your risk of developing ED.
If you are taking antihypertensive drugs, antidepressants, tranquilizers, psychotropic drugs, or sleeping pills, the side effects of these drugs may cause ED.

However, self-directed withdrawal or change of medication due to concern about the side effect of ED may worsen your condition.

In many cases, depending on the drug, it is possible to use it in combination with ED medications.

Treatments

Improvement is often observed with the oral administration of therapeutic drugs, but there are numerous erectile dysfunction medications available, and it is very important that the correct treatment be prescribed by a qualified physician.
